So, if you clicked on this post, chances are that you want to be found online - but you are really overwhelmed by the concept of SEO and how to include it on your site for success.

If this is you, then KEEP READING! In this post, I am walking you 3 simple but NECESSARY tasks you need to complete in order to start to set up your website for success. These 3 tasks are Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and Google My Business.

Setting up Google Search Console

Google Search Console is my #1 favorite tool to use when evaluating my site’s SEO.

Google Search Console allows you to see every single word you rank for - by showing you what keywords your site shows up for, how many people searched with that keyword, what page ranking your site is at in that search, and how many people actually clicked onto your site after their search.

This info is gold for your business. It helps show you what keywords are working well, which ones are really not performing, and gives you a guide on how to continuously improve your SEO for potential customers.

Each site sets up Google Search Console differently, but it is pretty simple! Here are some of those setup guides:

Setting up Google Analytics

Here’s the deal: Google Analytics are a GAMECHANGER when it comes to SEO for your small business.

I am a web programmer, so my roots are in data analytics - and boy, do I love them.  What analytics in general do is TEACH you about your audience, how you are effectively reaching them, and how to BEST reach them.  Literally, it is FREE INFORMATION ON YOUR AUDIENCE.

It’s really easy to set up Google Analytics for your site. Just visit the Google Analytics Home Page, log in with your Google Account, then enter in your website information to monitor. You’ll receive a tracking code that Google will instruct you to enter in your website, which gives Google permission to track your data - SO EASY!

There is a TON of information you can use from Google Analytics to improve your website’s SEO, so here are a few of my favorite analytics:

  • See what is popular content that your audience flocks to - I like looking at my most popular pages to see what blog content I should continue providing for my audience!

  • Post at optimal times of the day - if you blog, you should definitely post AND talk about your website when your audience is most active during the day!

  • See what is your main source of referrals and act on it! My main sources of referrals are Instagram and Google, since I pour a lot of work into those platforms.  With this information, you can either choose to stick to building those referral places up (what I would recommend first) or focus more time on places that aren’t attracting users.

SETTING UP GOOGLE MY BUSINESS

What’s Google My Business?? Well, if you have ever Googled a company or restaurant, and get a result on the right side of your screen with the business information, reviews, hours, location, etc. - then that business has set up their Google Business account!!!

Why is this important? SO many people are constantly searching on Google, so having an established web presence is incredibly important today, especially when people are searching for specific businesses or services in their area.

To set up, you’ll want to log into your Google Account (or set one up), and then navigate to Google My Business. Follow the easy steps that Google provides in order to set up your account, which includes verifying your address, adding photos, information about your business, hours, and more.

Even after all the setup, you’ll still want to continue to stay checked in with your Google My Business Account. You can check your insights (see how many searches you showed up in), update your photos or services, AND request reviews from your past clients!

Once you have set up all of these tools, you are 100% on track to success with your website’s SEO. Continue to stay updated and improve your SEO by using these tools to see what needs to be changed. You can do it!!!
