Three Easy Ways to Choose Your Brand Colors

Ever hear the words “brand colors” and want to cringe? Or run away because that is just TOO HARD of a decision to make?!

I’m right there with you, friend. Picking brand colors can feel so overwhelming - what if you choose colors that don’t go together??? Or colors that don’t match the personality of your brand - whatever that means!

Working with other small business owners develop their brands has helped me trial and error different methods on how to select your brand colors. These three methods I use interchangeably to help design the best, beautiful brand colors for my fellow small biz owners to base their brands around. Check them out now!

Method 1: Scour Pinterest

Pinterest is the source of major inspiration for literally EVERYONE - so you aren’t cheating if you find some of your brand colors through Pinterest! What I usually encourage clients to do is choose some words that describe their business, then search that word + “aesthetic” OR that word + “moodboard” on Pinterest. Usually, you’ll get a variety of beautiful photos and graphics, and from there you can start narrowing down colors. Feel free to play around with the colors, make your own moodboard, and SAVE the images that catch your eye - that way, you can go back and see what colors spoke to you the most!

Method 2: Check Out Your Instagram Feed

If you already have an Instagram feed for your business, this method is a great way to find colors that you are ALREADY USING for your brand! First, you’ll want to take a screenshot of your Instagram feed, then load it into an Instagram Story. While in the story editing section, choose the pen, and then the dropper tool to choose the MAIN COLOR in each photos, and color in the photo boxes with that color. Then, download that story and upload it to a color detector tool (online), which will give you all the hex color codes! I love this method because it’s super easy and helps you stick with colors that you’ve actually already integrated in your business.

Method 3: Use Coolors.co

If you are COMPLETELY STUMPED with colors, or have a couple picked out and aren’t sure what to do for the other colors, I recommend heading over to coolors.co , which has a random color palette generator that you can use. You can choose up to 5 colors, and just hit your spacebar to continue generating palettes. If a color sticks out to you, you can “lock” that color, and the generator will continue to produce palettes that compliment that color. It’s honestly SO fun to use, and it can be extremely helpful in choosing colors that look good together.

Overall, choosing brand colors can be a DAUNTING decision, but with the right tools, you’ll be able to figure it out in no time. Brand colors help make your business look more professional and also make your life WAY easier when creating content - so make sure to spend some time doing this!
