Did you know that what you put in your website footer ACTUALLY MATTERS for your small business customers!?!

Listen, web design can be TRICKY! There are lots of places where you can lose your potential customers because of confusing navigation or unclear messaging - and that even pertains to the footer at the bottom of each of your web pages!

A website footer is a central location where customers generally look for further navigation options as well as solid contact information and details about your business. You want to use your footer to serve your customer well AND drive them to buy/contact you - but what exactly should you include?

YOUR BUSINESS NAME AND CONTACT INFORMATION

It's important to continuously remind your new potential customers of your business name (leave an IMPRESSION), so make sure to have your business name listed in your footer. Also, have easy-to-access contact information, whether that is phone, email address, store address, etc. Even if YOUR preference is for customers to use your contact form, they may have a specific question they want to run by you. Remember, it's about making the customer's experience as simple as possible.

Squarespace Design Tip: You can easily create these quick contact/social media links on your site and add them to your footer! Just add a new block - Social Blocks - Social Links, and fill out your contact information!

YOUR INSTAGRAM FEED

I encourage EVERYONE to put your Instagram feed in the footer of your website!!!! The reason I do is because it's just another way to reuse your content as well as provide more backup to what you are saying on your site - and images always perform well!

To add to your Squarespace site, add a new block - Social Blocks - Instagram - then log into Instagram and give Squarespace permission to your feed - SO EASY!

A MAILING LIST SUBSCRIPTION BOX

A great way to encourage your potential customers to join your mailing list (and become some of your most LOYAL followers) is to actually embed your mailing list subscription box in your footer. That way, it shows up on EVERY SINGLE PAGE of your website, catching your customer's eyes and continuing to encourage them to join.

My favorite FREE email marketing service is ConvertKit - so easy to understand and free to use - check it out here: ConvertKit Email Marketing.

ALL MENU OPTIONS FOR YOUR WEBSITE

It's really important that you keep your main navigation (at the top of your website) neat and simple, so use the footer to provide ALL menu options that the customer may be looking for. This is a common practice around the world on websites, so customers will expect to see these menu options in your footer if they are looking for something specific on your website. If you are curious about what you SHOULD include as your menu options in your header check out my blog post, 3 Tips for the Best Website Header to Attract Your Customers.
