How to Create an Irresistible Tagline for Your Business

Do you have a go-to tagline for your business?

If not, then you definitely want to keep reading!

Having a great tagline is essential for your business because

  • You will use it at the top of your website to capture the attention of your audience.

  • You need a little blurb to put on business cards that you hand one that describe exactly what you do.

  • It helps give you direction on what to talk to your customers about.

So let’s jump into building an irresistible tagline - and there are 3 easy components to build one!

Describe the Product or Service You Provide

The first thing you need to do in your brand’s tagline is clearly identify the product and/or service you provide.

The key to this is to make sure that you keep the description as short and to the point as possible.  Most people tend to lean 2 separate ways when they first think about this section:

  • Overly descriptive. You want to make sure that you aren't using too many descriptive words and or phrases when talking about what you provide.   Here is one example of being too descriptive (describing a design business): Beautiful and smartly crafted websites and Custom brand designs.  Too many words like this will distract users when they are trying to understand what you are selling them.

  • Way too vague. On the other hand you want to make sure that you are specific enough about your product or service that they understand exactly what you provide. Here is one example of being too vague (describing a design business): strong online toolsIn this instance, a customer might be left confused on what you actually can provide them.

So how do you balance being between too descriptive and too vague? Usually I recommend using only one adjective to describe what you're providing, as well as being very specific to what you provide. For example, in my business, I say show-stopping custom branding and web design.

Make sure to use eye-catching adjectives to differentiate your brand from others and then say exactly what product the customer will receive from you.

Describe How Your Service/Product Helps

The next component to your tagline is adding a description of how your service or product helps your customer.

This is pretty straightforward but also pivotal in the tagline.

Usually this is an action that is combining your product with what it's doing with your customer.

Some ideas include...

  • Transforms your events

  • Help Reach More Customers

  • Reignite your passion

  • Partner with you

As mentioned, make sure to keep it really short and sweet and use some sort of verb that is showing the action behind your service or product.

Describe the Success Coming From Purchasing Your Service/Product

Lastly, you’ll want to describe what success looks like when your customer utilizes your service or product.

It’s important that your customer can visualize what life will be like AFTER buying from you because this gives them an end goal that they want to reach (and you have a direct way to help them)!

As with both steps above, keep this simple. You’ll want to really keep your ideal client in mind when crafting this portion, as you will be writing about what THEY want out of this experience!

For example:

  • Create smiles and savor moments together

  • A Pinterest-worthy event

  • A Day to remember

  • Design a dream home on a budget

With all of these steps, I hope you are able to create the PERFECT tagline to capture your audience’s attention.

You can use your tagline at the top of your homepage, on your business cards, and also personally to help you focus when creating messages for your customers!

If that's you, I would love to work with you on building a brand that helps you have confidence in your online voice and bring customers that will truly fall in love with your business!!
